DAGESTAN, October 1, Caucasus Times – Local lawmakers have passed the law regulating the participation of volunteers in joint squads of civilians and police patrols to keep order in the streets of Dagestan. The law was approved at the session of Public Assembly of Dagestan held on September 30. Therefore, the local authorities have restored volunteer squads of civilians very common during the Soviet era. These volunteer squads of civilians aiding the police in patrolling the streets would be established and financed by local administrations, underscored the chairman of legislation committee M. Gashimov. The regional governor Mohamed Ali Mohamedov backed the law. “The law is very urgent, as it helps to involve the public of Dagestan in fighting terrorism,” Mr.Mohamedov was quoted as saying.
