Tournament of young wrestlers held in Chechnya

CHECHNYA, November 23, Caucasus Times, – The republic’s youth championship of Creco-Roman wrestling was held yesterday in Groznyy.

Final contests were held in the Middle School No. 39 in Aldy of Zavodskoi district of Groznyy. The competitions were carried out under the motto “Sports against drugs” Several teams of young wrestlers from many districts of the Chechen Republic have taken part in the tournament.

The Creco-Roman style had been very popular in the republic before the war and now it seems to be catching second wind, one of the athletes was quoted as saying. “Until recently we had only one wrestling club in Naursky district and now there are eight teams from different regions of the republic competing in the tournament. Hopefully, our young wrestlers will be participating in the country’s and international championships,” the sportsman said.

Different prizes were awarded to the winners of the championship including bonuses and diplomas.
