INGUSHETIA, by October 11, Caucasus Times – Law enforcement agencies cracking down on insurgents underground in the republic were combating on Sunday a group of rebels in a neighborhood of Nazran killing two militants, Caucasus Times correspondent reports citing the Interior Ministry of Ingushetia.
A joint team of FSB agents and special task police cordoned off a territory around a house in Gamurziyevo, Ingushetia to conduct the operation and confronted the militants who returned deadly assault fire. Two insurgents have been shot dead at the scene. Several civilians were injured and two officers suffered shrapnel wounds, the Interior Ministry officials said. The victims have been taken to hospital, while the police could not report the number of those who had suffered in the battle.
The police informed that militants allegedly linked to Basayev grouping were hiding out in a building in Chabiyev street, according to Interior Minstry, began a two-hour operation at about 7 p. m. yesterday. The police squads were reinforced by armored vehicles militants. The militants refused to surrender and opened fire, Caucasus Times correspondent quoted a police officer as saying. The destroyed militants have been identified already as Mohammed and Said Hashiyevs the hot suspects wanted by the police for the June raid in the republic, the policeman said.
A terrorism case has been instituted. At the moment, a team of detectives is searching for evidences at the scene.
