Police detects two hideouts of insurgents in Ingushetia

INGUSHETIA, November, 22, Caucasus Times – A joint team of federal law enforcement agencies and local task police discovered yesterday two large insurgents’ hideouts while conducting operational search measures in Ingushetia, the regional Interior Ministry said.

One of the weapon and ammunition caches was found in the vicinity of Nazran city, another one – in the forest belt near Psedakh of Malgobeksky district, an Interior Ministry officer told Caucasus Times correspondent.

“Employees of regional branch of Federal Secret Service and Ingushetia’s police found two large carefully disguised caches intended for militants, while conducted a special operation measures on November 21,” the police officer was quoted as saying. There were three Kalashnikov assaults rifles, forty cartridges for large-caliber machine guns and three hand grenades in the first hideout. The police were surprised to find a mortar, 74 rounds, over thirty anti-tank mines and other ammunition in the cache nearby Psedakh, the officer said.

The republic’s law enforcement agencies suggested the caches were intended for small groupings of insurgents or those that had been destroyed earlier by federal troops and local police fighting terrorism. As of now the regional task police are tracking down those who may possibly be involved in the storing of weapons and ammunition for insurgents.
