Law enforcement agencies believe that militants who managed to escape encirclement in early January hide in one of the caves in the mountains in Dagestan

DAGESTAN, 11 January, Caucasus Times. Sources in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan informed CaucasusTimes correspondent that law enforcement agencies are sure that group of militants, which managed to escape encirclement in early January this year hide in one of the caves in the mountains on the territory of Uncukul district of Dagestan.

It is worth of reminding that special operation aimed at liquidation of the group of militants, which lasted more than four days in Uncukul district of Dagestan resulted in death of two members of special militia units (OMON) and one militiaman. According to preliminary information released by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Dagestan, five militants have been killed. However, their bodies have not been found yet.

Special units of the Interior Ministry and Defence Ministry took part in the military operation. Military helicopters, trench mortars as well as howitzers have been used in the course of the operation. Howitzers were delivered to the site of the special operation during one night.

According to the information from Interior Ministry, Umar Sheihullaev, who is wanted by federal criminal police and who is suspected of being involved in a murder of a head of disctrict militia is at the head of this group of militants.

Operation against the group of militants blocked in Uncukul district of Dagestan started on 3 January this year.

Representatives of the Interior Ministry noticed that search for the militants who managed to escape is continuing.
