ADYGEYA, November 24, Caucasus Times, – The Congress of Muslims of the republic has again elected Nurbi Yemizh the mufti of Adygheya and Krasnodar Territory, Caucasus Times correspondent reports.
The IV-th Congress of Muslims held in Maikop on November 24, gathered 155 delegates from several districts of Adygeya and Krasnodar Territory, and also representatives of the Chechen and Tatar diasporas in the republic. The agenda of the congress was the election of mufti. Four nominees participated in the election. Delegates decided to not change their leader and amended their organization charter extending the mufti’s service up to four years. Nurbi Yemizh has been elected by 149 votes, the overwhelming majority of delegates.
It is worthy of note, the Russian Orthodoxy Bishop of Adygeya and Armavir Panteleimon took part in the event along with local top official guests, invited at the convention of Muslims. There were representative of administration of Krasnodar Territory Jury Burlachenko, chief of staff of Adygeya’s President Talyy Beretar and Interior minister Vasily Smirnov. Speaking at the congress Mr. Smornov praised the mufti for his merits, because, “still there are no Wahhabism or any forms of religious extremism in the republic,” the minister was quoted as saying.
