Eight-years term on probation for a Dagestan writer

DAGESTAN, September 23, Caucasus Times – A 72-year-old Dagestan writer Adallo Aliyev was sentenced to an eight-year term on probation Thursday by Makhachkala district court.

Mr. Aliyev pleaded guilty in complicity in the raid of Basayv and Khattab groups to Dagestan in the summer of 1999. Mr. Aliyev had called for overthrowing of constitutional order and imposing Islamic regime in Dagestan the indictment said.

Mr. Aliyev was reported fled from the republic hiding abroad but eventually surrendered voluntarily in July.
