A notorious terrorist identified among dead militants

DAGESTAN, January 17, Caucasus Times – A body of notorious terrorist Rasul Makarsharipov was identified among destroyed militants in the ruins of demolished houses in Makhachkala, stormed by special forces. The man led a group that targeted on law enforcement agencies, having killed over 30 police officers in two recent years in Dagestan, Caucasus Times correspondent reports citing Nikolai Griaznov, chief of the regional Federal Security Service. There were five maimed bodies of militants found at the scene, four of them still unidentified, Mr. Griaznov said in his interview with journalists.

The insurgents allegedly intended to stage a string of terror attacks in the republic, according to the law enforcement agencies. There were lots of weapons, ammunitions, explosives found by detectives at the site of the combat, said the FSB official.

Meanwhile, the authorities have pledged to compensate loses of the locals whose houses were torn down during the counterterrorism operation. A private house, which turned to be a hideout for the insurgents, besieged by special forces was totally destroyed by the army tank fire. Besides, several houses close by, were also damaged by severe artillery and machine gun fire.
