Russian speaker visits Dagestan, urges seizure of corrupt officials’ properties

Dagestan, 19 February, Caucasus Times: Federation Council [upper house of parliament] Chairman Sergey Mironov, who arrived in Dagestan today as the leader of the political party A Just Russia, came up with a proposal to impound properties of corrupt officials and their relatives.

Mironov made this statement on 18 February [as published] before workers of the Dagdizel [Dagestani diesel] plant in Kaspiysk. He proposed making the criminal punishment for corruption as severe as it is for treason. Mironov said that if an official is corrupt, then his and even his relatives’ properties should be impounded. The proposal was loudly applauded.
