Prime minister of Dagestan resigns

DAGESTAN, October 11, Caucasus Times – Heizry Shihsaidov, the prime minister of the republic’s government notified Friday the regional governor Mohamedali Mohamedov of the resignation, Caucasus Times correspondent reports citing the State Council press office. Still, there was not any official comment on the move of the prime minister.

Mr. Shihsaidov had earlier applied for the retirement but at that time his resignation was turned down. The move came in the aftermath of a car accident when the prime minister’s jeep ran into a car killing five members of a family, including children. Local people blamed the accident on the top officials. However, some observers linked the resignation with a recent visit of Russian State Duma commission to the republic, which had revealed numerous cases of money embezzlement in Dagestan.

Atai Atayev, the chairman of audit committee is said to succeed to the office. As to Mr. Shihsaidov’s career he most likely will be appointed the head of regional branch of Russian Central Bank in Dagestan, some analysts said. The issue will be debated at the Wednesday session of the republic’s Cabinet appointed.
