DAGESTAN, November 10, Caucasus Times – Special task forces conducting an operation late night November 9 cordoned off a house in the vicinity of Makhachkala, a hideout of criminals believed to be involved in a string of killings of police, spokesman for the regional Interior Ministry told Caucasus Times correspondent.
The operation just was about to begin when criminals opened fire at the police squad from windows on the second level of the nine-story building. Special forces returned fire setting off an-hour combat went on about an hour. One policeman was reported killed, deputy Interior minister, chief of counterterrorism department Muslim Dakhayev suffered injuries in the firefight.
The gunmen managed to escape from the building, the Interior Ministry said. The task police detectives searched the apartment and found an improvised bomb and Wahhabism literature. As of now, the reinforced police squads have been tracking down the terrorists.
