Police protect Adygeyan presidential candidate over threats
ADYGEYA, 3 November, Caucasus Times: Aslan Tkhakushinov, an Adygeyan presidential candidate, has been provided with police protection, a source at the republic’s Interior Ministry has reported.
His house is also being protected. The source said that this step was taken because of constant threats to the rector of Maykop Technological University, Tkhakushinov.
The incumbent Adygeyan president, Khazret Sovmen, whose tenure ends in January 2007, described the voting of MPs of the State Council – Adyge Khase to nominate Tkhakushinov to the post of the leader of the republic as illegal. He noted that the current regulations were violated when the issue was considered and that MPs had not discussed it with their voters.
