DAGESTAN, 7 November, Caucasus Times. For the second consecutive day around 100 inhabitants of Gumbetov district of Dagestan are blocking republican motor highway Tlokh – Khasavyurt. Their main demand is getting financial compenstation for the damage to their dwelling and property caused by natural disasters including heavy rains and landslide in 2002.
CaucasusTimes correspondent reports that the inhabitants of the villages Ingishi, Igali and Chirkata are taking part in this action.
At present, representatives of the administration of Gumbetov district are trying to persuade the participants of the protests to stop their action and return home.
During several consecutive years Dagestan is suffering from a number of various natural disasters, especially from the floods and landslides. 2002 was the most difficult year when 1858 families lost their homes. Total sum of damage equals to 1 billion 127 millions rubles in the prices of the third quarter of 2002. During last three years compensations have been paid twice – 541 million rubles in 2002 and 100 million rubles in December 2004. Ministry of Communal and Municipal Services of Dagestan is responsible for paying all compensations.
