Foreign Ministry criticizes Britain television channel for broadcasting Basayev’s filmed interview

PRAGUE, February 4, Caucasus Times – The Russian Foreign Ministry in its statement yesterday denounced Great Britain for broadcasting a filmed interview of notorious warlord Shamil Basayev by the 4th television channel.

In the interview Mr. Basayev again admitted his responsibility for a sting of recent attacks in Russia, including the September hostage-taking in Beslan in North Ossetia, Radio Liberty reports. The authorities of the Great Britain have announced they resolutely condemn Basayev for his terror actions and have nothing to do with the broadcasting of the interview,” the Foreign Office statement reads.

Meanwhile the Russian media have reported citing Abkhazia’s Security Service of Basayev’s possible death last month.

Earlier the Russian Prosecutor’s Office has filed criminal charges against Aslan Maskhadov and Shamil Basayev for staging terror attacks in Russia, including the hostage-taking in Beslan and insurgent raids of Nazran, Ingushetia.

The scandalous news followed the ceasefire statement of separatists’ leaders posted on the Website Kavkaz Center.
