Deputy Mayor’s house comes under fire

KARACHAY-CHERKESSIA, March 29, Caucasus Times – Deputy Mayor Peter Korotchenko’s house was attacked by unknown criminals yesterday night in Cherkessk, the regional Interior Ministry reports.

The attackers opened assault rifle fire upon the house of the deputy mayor and tossed a hand grenade into a room of his 12-year-old son. Fortunately, the grenade did not detonate. The police detectives found a Kalashnkov-74 assault rifle at the site.

No one of Mr. Korotchenkol’s family suffered in the incident, the police said, adding the assault was obviously intended to terrorize the official.
